The recent announcement of league awards put the official close on the Westfield Starfires inaugural season with three players being named to the All-League team.
Jack Fox (Emerson College), Thomas Joyce (Merrimack College) and Danny Crossen (Northeastern), were all named to the Futures Collegiate Baseball League’s All-FCBL team.
The three players were also part of the league’s Mid-Summer Classic, joining fellow Starfires players Chase Jeter (Dartmouth College) and Devin Kellogg (University of Hartford) on the 2019 All-Star Team.
Along with those accolades, the Westfield Starfires boasted the league Batting Champion in Joyce who finished the campaign batting .370 and pitcher Jack Fox set a new league record for strikeouts in a season with 79.
“We didn’t have the record we were hoping for but overall it was a successful first season for our organization,” said Don Moorhouse, co-owner of the team. “It was a competitive roster with four or five players that were among the league’s best. We had some great crowds and the team played extremely well at home. We can’t wait for Opening Day of Season Two.”
The Starfires also made headlines when Danny Crossen became the first player in the history of the Futures League to play all nine positions in a single game. He accomplished the feat on July 31 against the North Shore Navigators.
The team had several sellouts of historic Billy Bullens Field during the 2019 campaign including Opening Night, the first-ever School Day outing, and the July 7 Fireworks night.
The team closed its 2019 home schedule by introducing the 2019 Babe Ruth World Series team with its starting lineup.
The team is currently recruiting its roster for next season and organizing a series of fan promotions to go along with a soon-to-be-announced Season Ticket campaign.
